USA Today posted an article “Health advocates go sour on sugar” that really hit close to home for me. My interest is always particularly peeked when the words sugar are mentioned in an article because it is usually closely followed by the word diabetes. I’ve read several articles that blame food for the cause of obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that food doesn’t contribute to both of the above mentioned diseases but it is not the only culprit.
This article did a great job in pointing out that sugar is not the bad guy. An excerpt from a nutrionist in the article says “Sugar is not the root of all dietary evil. A little bit of sugar adds to the taste of foods. But we’ve lost sight of moderation because of the gigantic portion sizes. You have to be so vigilant about portion sizes to avoid overconsuming.”
I like to say that it’s not about being on a diabetic diet it’s about a healthy lifestyle for everyone. For me a healthy lifestyle is about portion control not food restrictions.
Read the article and tell me what you think. I love comments!
